David Burham has been a violinist with the Eugene Symphony for 27 years. He has performed with the Eugene Opera, the Eugene Ballet, the Eugene Festival of Musical Theatre and the Oregon Mozart Players. In addition to playing the violin, Mr. Burham also plays the viola, mandolin and piano. He has given three solo recitals in Eugene, and has studied with violinist Sherry Kloss, who was the assistant to Jascha Heifetz when Mr. Heifetz taught master classes in southern California from the mid - 1970's until 1984. Mr. Burham received his Bachelor in Music Education degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1980. He has, for the last 25 years, taught private violin lessons at his home in Eugene. Mr. Burham has also worked with stringed instrument players in the Arts Umbrella program and has had students successfully audition for all five levels of the excellent orchestral program that Arts Umbrella provides. In addition to his private teaching experience, Mr. Burham has also done substitute teaching in the 4-J District, and has taken post-graduate courses in education. Mr. Burham was accepted to the Berklee College of Music in Boston on Merit Scholarship as a jazz violin performance major in 1986. He has played in numerous bands over the years in Pacific Northwest region, and is currently the violinist for "The Sugar Beets", for which he has played 4 and 5 string electric and acoustic violins, keyboards and viola d'More. He is also currently the fiddle player in the Bluegrass ensemble “Rusty Still.” In 2002, he established his own instrument making business "David Burham Custom Electric Violins," and has sold instruments all over the world. In addition to his luthier work, Mr. Burham also does violin repair and bow rehairing for a couple school districts in the Eugene-Springfield area.
