Cheryl Denice Welfer - Oboe
- Oboe
- Second Oboe
Cheryl Denice Wefler plays oboe in the Eugene Symphony. Coming from a musical family where her mother sang in choir and her father played saxophone, Cheryl grew up in an area south of Chicago. She earned her undergraduate degree in music education from Indiana State University and her Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has a special education endorsement from Northern Illinois University. In addition to performing with the Eugene Symphony, Cheryl performs with the Oregon Mozart Players, the Eugene Opera, the Corvallis/OSU Symphony, and numerous chamber groups. When asked about her favorite music, Cheryl describes her favorite music as that which communicates with, or touches to, people on an emotional or cerebral level. When asked about which instrument in the orchestra she would love to learn to play other than the oboe, Cheryl says she would love to learn one of the string instruments, since she believes they come a close second to the oboe in terms of expression. Outside of performing, Cheryl enjoys readings, writing, going for walks, bird watching, and trying to keep up with her son's many interests.
