Hanya Etter - Viola

  • Viola

Hanya Etter has played viola with the Eugene Symphony for more than 27 years. She is also the orchestra's music librarian. She has performed with the Eugene Opera Orchestra, Oregon State/Corvallis Symphony, the Blue Heron String Quartet, and the Oregon Mozart Players. She enjoys baroque music and loves Faure’s Requiem. While she has taken lessons on the piano, violin and flute, she still prefers the viola, which she claims is the perfect instrument. Hanya was born in Eugene, and then moved to Berkeley for 15 years before returning to Eugene. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Oregon in 1984. She has a very music-oriented family; her mother played piano and organ, her father taught himself piano and played cello, and all her siblings also play instruments.
