Jill Pauls plays third flute and piccolo in the Eugene Symphony. The 2010-11 season marks her ninth season with the orchestra. In addition to playing with the Eugene Symphony, Jill plays with the Oregon Mozart Players, Eugene Opera, OSU/Corvallis Symphony, and the Arrieu Wind Quintet. She has played flute and piccolo for 35 years! Coming from a musical family of singers, Jill grew up in upstate New York. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas, and a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oregon. Jill says that if she could learn to play another orchestral instrument it would be the cello. She loves the rich sound of the cello and has a new-found appreciation for the instrument since her daughter began taking cello lessons from Eugene Symphony Cellist Ann Grabe. Outside of performing music, Jill enjoys camping, fishing, traveling, and playing games with her beautiful family and dogs. She is also enjoys sewing. Jill says her most memorable Eugene Symphony experience was performing all of the amazing flute solos in Petrushka under Miguel Harth Bedoya. Her favorite flute piece is Demersseman’s 6th Solo de Concert and her favorite orchestral composers are Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. In addition to playing flute/piccolo, Jill also plays piano.
