Sean Wagoner is an instructor of percussion studies at the University of Oregon. He also teaches orchestration for music educators, and music appreciation courses. Wagoner received his Doctor of Musical Arts, master's, and bachelor's degrees in percussion performance from the University of Oregon, where he was a student of Charles Dowd. His recording credits include: percussionist on the Grammy Award-winning Hännsler recording of Krzysztof Penderecki's Credo with Helmuth Rilling and the Oregon Bach Festival; drummer on the platinum-selling album, Zoot Suit Riot: The Swingin'’ Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies; percussionist for George Crumb's An Idyll for the Misbegotten and Iannis Xenakis' Persephassa for broadcast worldwide on WGBH Boston's "Art of the States" and Radioemisoras 96.5 FM "XIII Festival de Música Contemporánea" in Santiago, Chile. In addition to his role as percussionist in the Eugene Symphony, Wagoner is currently principal timpanist of the Oregon Mozart Players chamber orchestra and principal percussionist of the Eugene Opera Orchestra. He is also active as a freelance percussionist with the Oregon Symphony, the Cascade Festival of Music, and the Oregon Festival of American Music. As a composer and arranger, Wagoner has published with TRN Music Publisher, Lorenz Corporation/Matrix Publishing, and has received commissions from the Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Fresno State University, and the University of Oregon.

The Eugene Symphony is privileged to be one of two orchestras chosen to participate in Midori’s 2011-12 Orchestra Residencies Program. Designed by Midori as a means of supporting the American youth orchestra, the Orchestra Residencies Program is a collaborative project which provides meaningful musical experiences now for the next generation of classical musicians. The program aspires to help establish the youth orchestra as a presence in the community, as well as to build upon relationships with the local professional symphony, visiting artists and administrative staff. Eugene Symphony names Executive Director
Mary Ann Hanson, President of the Eugene Symphony Association, has announced that the Board of Directors has appointed Scott Freck as Executive Director of the Eugene Symphony, effective June 11, 2012. The appointment was confirmed at a special meeting of the Board where members received the unanimous recommendation of a seven-member Search Committee. It marks the successful conclusion of a six-month national search. Scott Freck is Vice President for Artistic Operations and General Manager of the North Carolina Symphony, where he has worked since 2000. In making the announcement, Mrs. Hanson stated, “We are delighted that Scott Freck will join the Eugene Symphony Association as our Executive Director and we welcome Scott and his family to Eugene." Speaking of his appointment, Freck said, “Together the musicians, Board of Directors, Guild, and staff of the Eugene Symphony have built an orchestra with a strong national reputation for artistic quality and a deeply rooted connection to the community. I am honored to accept this position and look forward to joining the Eugene Symphony's proud tradition and promising future.” Prior to moving to North Carolina, Scott Freck was Artistic Administrator of the Oregon Symphony and served on the symphony staff there for nine years. A former cellist, he is also an alumnus of the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Mr. Freck has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where he also served as Assistant Principal Cello of the Walla Walla Symphony and Principal Cello of the Whitman College Orchestra. Scott Freck and his wife, Leslie Anderson Freck, have an eleven-year-old daughter, Elena, and a nine-year-old son, Ivan.
