Miriam English Ward - Viola

Dr. Miriam English Ward serves as Assistant Principal Viola for the Eugene Symphony. She has played various instruments for 28 years, including the violin and electric viola. Her top three favorite songs include: Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, Shostakovich Violin Concerto #2, and The Goldberg Variations. She also performs with Nocturna, Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Classical Revolution PDX, SoundWaves Festival, and Festival Amadeus. She has tried the harp in school and would like to eventually really learn it well. She grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska. Miriam has a Bachelor’s from the Manhattan School of Music, a Master’s from Peabody Conservatory, and a Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She also studied in Japan with K. Kawasaki of the Toho Conservatory.
