"Majestic Horizons" invites you into music shaped by imagination, storytelling, and bold artistic vision. The evening opens with Alex Prior’s performance version of Handel’s Water Music, returning the piece to the spirit of its original royal celebration. Drawing directly from Handel’s material, Prior reshapes the sequence and orchestral color into a single narrative designed for modern instruments, recapturing the sense of scale and theatrical energy that first made the work so striking.

Eugene Symphony Principal Trumpet Bryce Schmidt takes center stage for Oskar Böhme’s Trumpet Concerto, a virtuosic showcase of brilliance and expressive power. The program concludes with Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, the “Rhenish,” a sweeping and uplifting tribute to the beauty and character of the Rhine River. Together, these works offer a vivid musical journey filled with momentum, color, and moments of awe best experienced live.

Tickets start at $22 with $10 student/youth tickets.

Bryce Schmidt
Trumpet Soloist

  • Born in Salem Oregon, trumpet player Bryce Schmidt was a distinct musical talent from a young age. As a teen, Schmidt received early recognition from the music community winning the National Trumpet Competition's High School Soloist division in 2006. Bryce continued his musical studies earning a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees under the tutelage of Bill Campbell at the University of Michigan. Bryce's artistry then earned him the James Stamp Trumpet Scholarship while working on a Graduate Certificate at the University of Southern California under the guidance of Los Angeles Philharmonic trumpeters Boyde Hood and Thomas Hooten.

Finishing his formal studies in 2017, Bryce quickly began making a name for himself in the freelance community. Having already played as a guest performer with the Detroit Symphony and Ann Arbor Symphony, Bryce has played in Los Angeles with the Downey Symphony, guest principal with the American Youth Symphony, Hans Zimmer Live, and has served as a sub musician with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
