This Thursday, the Eugene Symphony brings a dazzling twist to a holiday classic with Eugene Goossens’ grand, technicolor arrangement of Handel’s Messiah.

Music Director Alex Prior joined KPNW’s Wake Up Call to talk about what makes this version so gloriously over-the-top — from cymbals and castanets to all the sweep, sparkle, and just a hint of drag-level drama. The performance may be traditional in name, but the sound is anything but.
